After dialling down the hysteria GLaDOS thought for a long time, a very long time, approximately 2 million nanoseconds, which is a long time for a supercomputer. So GLaDOS had thought, where could Alex be, after all she was only human. Balanced on those fragile, organic legs, she couldn't have gotten far could she?

This was bad, very bad; Alex had gone to recharge her primitive organic batteries. Then she had vanished, the last recorded instance of her was her walking into the 'dead zone' the one place where GLaDOS wasn't operational; Alex had presumably gone off to do whatever it was humans did in their spare time.

Could she have gotten hurt? The idea sparked an electrical surge of pure emotion in GLaDOS but rationality swept it away, though a more simple minded creature could have fallen into a hole or damaged itself GLaDOS new her daughter was too intelligent for that. There was the 'dEffECtuAl kilL-a-BoTs' gang, a group of insane Turret defects who terrorised anyone who came across them, but wait, no. No, GLaDOS new for a fact that that little gang of misfits wanted nothing more than to woe her; even if that wasn't the case the Turrets couldn't harm her, what with the lack of movement and weaponry.

Still that was of no comfort, for it left only one possibility. Alex, GLaDOS's precious little human child, had run away.

"Snap!" Turret squealed the word so suddenly and loudly that Alex was taken aback, she and Turret being unable to move great distances had settled down the children's card game 'Snap!' Though to Alex's ever growing frustration Turret failed to grasp the games basic concept, "Okay Turret, let's try this again-" once more an unexpected interruption by Turret "You just don't like the fact that I've won over 78.05 times!"

Alex sighed, attempted to rest her head in her hands and jerked upward with intense pain, broken arms rarely heal within a few hours after all. She was frustrated, very frustrated and angry. Angry at Companion Cube for disappearing, angry at her mother for shielding her from the beauty of nature, angry at her stupid broken arm, but most prominently angry at Turret for not getting something so simple.

In a span of 10 seconds Alex had gone from, a weak calm into an angry teenage girl, though that was normal for most teenage girls. She would yell at Turret scream and shout, and then, then the thought faded. Alex relented, shrugged her shoulders and caused herself more pain in the process.

After all it wasn't Turrets fault; she had only been designed as a mindless killing machine, an aspect she appeared to lack. Alex's thoughts once again lingered on home, though not for long. For Alex knew she was trying to avoid something major, that file in that old briefcase…

No time, not now, not when Companion Cube was still missing. Alex once again put on her stubborn look of resistant in the face of desperation, time to find Companion Cube, where on earth was that heart faced box.
Part 3, oh yes I'm on a roll again.
