"Results for the 389th search for any information on the status of 'NAME: Commander Holly G. Shepard' are as follows:" Dr. T'Soni cut Glyph off in mid-sentence, 388 searches of all information regarding Commander Shepard had only come up with negative.
Commander Shepard had been switching military registers for an inter-galactic month, she had single handily gone from K.I.A to M.I.A over 2 dozen times, all due to the lack of a body or her appearance. Those who wanted her status to be certified as K.I.A argued that with no sign of her survival, and with the passing on an inter-galactic month Shepard must surely be dead.
This hurt Dr. T'Soni deeply, a scientist and rationalist herself she could see the logic. The average human being can only survive a week at most without water; though she thought if access to water was available then Shepard could survive indefinitely, this was presuming Shepard had access to a food source which was unlikely.
A tear silently rolled down Dr. T'Soni's cheek; she stopped herself from becoming so emotionally engaged, emotion and logic do not mix, she told herself firmly. If by some miracle Shepard survived the destruction of the citadel then it would be right to presume her rations kit would survive also, even if she had no liquid water to drink her rations would contain enough for her to survive 120 hours.
Not enough time, Dr. T'Soni told herself, better to stop thinking about it. There was also her much preferred argument, foolish in design of pure hope but still it made the nights hurt less. The counter-argument to keep Shepard's status as M.I.A was that there was also no evidence to proof she was dead, it focused on the fact that Shepard had survived numerous encounters with death and walked away no worse for wear. Shepard was for lack of a better word lucky, extremely lucky.
Throughout Dr. T'Soni's period of silent thought Glyph had remained in near absolute silence, floating with a soft electric buzz. "Glyph!" Dr. T'Soni said with a forced smile "what are the results then?" "Status on body: Unknown…" It still felt strange she thought, any living being would pause or take a breath before speaking but Glyph just continued his sentence like he had never been interrupted.
Once more she snapped herself out of it and begun to listen more carefully to Glyph's now all too familiar list of negatives and unknowns, "possible alliance telecommunications transmission on the status of Shepard, do you wish to proceed?" Dr. T'Soni seemed to be more alert than she had in weeks "yes, play transmission."
Glyph's voice disappeared and was replaced by a bad quality audio clip "…*burst of static*…Commander Warshaw? Commander, are you there? *short burst of static*" there was a break in the clip before it was replaced with a much higher quality one. "This is Commander Warshaw, son what is the problem?" "…*burst of static followed by small arms fire*… sir, it's… its big sir… I, I… I…" "Calm down son, what's your name?" "Private Davidson sir"
Dr. T'Soni stopped the audio clip, "Glypth, open up the files for Private Davidson, cross reference with Commander Warshaw alliance military to find him." Glyph took a second to bring up the Private's file, displayed in thin air was a picture of a relatively handsome young man. Dr. T'Soni used her hands to shrink the image, bring up his psychological evaluation and his combat ratings.
She read the evaluation out loud "Private Davidson, John C. Functions well under pressure, unlikely to crack. Supporter for multiple charities and political groups ranging from, 'Species only areas' to 'Asari Commandos rehabilitation centres' suggests subject is diverse in views. Accepting though indecisive in his actions, recommended tier 2 grade B therapy." Strange, she thought. What could make Davidson so scared "continue clip."
The clip was continued exactly where it left off "okay Davidson, tell me the situation" Davidson took a few shaky breaths that were relayed through the audio "its Shepard sir… we think we might of found her." Dr. T'Soni gasped "Davidson, repeat your last. It sounded like you said Shepard?" "Affirmative sir" Dr. T'Soni was in shock "okay, what are your coordinates son?" "…*a loud explosion is heard followed by gunfire*…sir we are at the coordinates…*a loud shrieking whistle is heard*… what the hell is tha-" the transmission ends.
Dr. T'Soni didn't know what to do, she couldn't think clearly. She was bemused at the floor coming up to greet her, her last thought that blacked out all others was a single word. Shepard.

I was looking at this piece in particular [link] and listening to the mass effect soundtrack... and well I wrote this. It's not great though I hope it's not bad either. Enjoy.

It's not portal but its still pretty damn good. I liked the comment about glyph not taking a pause, it certainly lent a sense of realism to this story.
